After finishing high school, I spent a lot of time listening to incredible stories about Argentine entrepreneursāprofessionals from our country who were out there building extraordinary things.
I was fascinated by how non-linear these stories were. People who were achieving truly impressive milestones. Marcos Galperin, Emiliano Kargieman, Guillermo Rauch, Manuel AristarƔn, Gerardo Richarte, among others. Their stories were absolutely wild. For instance, some of them were selling cybersecurity software to the U.S. Pentagon and later launching satellites from Patagonia. Just one example among many.
During my adolescence, and later in my early university years, I had the good fortune of meeting remarkable peopleāpeople who also knew these stories and asked themselves a few more questions than the average person. That deeply inspired me when I began university, attended my first events and competitions, or started new jobs. Meeting people who thought differently was always exciting.
Iāve always sought to connect with that kind of person. It motivated me to know there were others out there following a non-linear pathāone with no predefined roadmap. No one can truly teach you how to start a meaningful project or build a company. At least, not most people.
A few years ago, I constantly found myself wondering: Where can I meet people like this? A few days ago, something amazing happened that answered that question.
After participating in this yearās edition of HackITBA with my team, I had decided to take a break from hackathons and competitions.
Donāt get me wrongāI love the atmosphere of a hackathon. Fifty, sixty, or even a hundred people sharing the same energy. Working non-stop for 12, 24, or more consecutive hours with the goal of building something meaningful. Itās an amazing experience. But it can also be incredibly draining, and I had already attended two hackathons over the past eight months.
Right after finishing my finals for the first semester, I came across a new hackathon being announced. It was different. It had a fresh focus I hadnāt seen before. And more importantly, it was being organized by people I greatly admireāthe very kinds of individuals I mentioned earlier. The decision to join was easy.
I registered SoloQ, simply aiming to meet interesting peopleāand thatās exactly what happened.
From the moment I arrived, the energy was incredible, the venue was spectacular, and I kept meeting extremely talented individuals throughout the day.
We coded for 10 hours straight and pitched our proposal to an outstanding jury. I teamed up with two amazing people, from whom I learned a lot, and we had a great time building together during those 10 hours.
Once again, I was reminded of the exceptional talent our country holds. Argentine developers have something differentāit goes beyond technical skills. There is a spark, a collaborative spirit, and a willingness to innovate that is difficult to explain unless youāve experienced it firsthand.
As for the organizers, they were the reason I signed up in the first place: @LuTrujilloAR @mcarpintini3 @0xKoller @MigueMorkin
These are names Iāve been following on social media for a long time. They are incredible professionalsāthe very kind of people I described earlier. Not only do they possess outstanding technical knowledge and backgrounds, but they are also the type of professionals who contribute daily to the growth of local talent.
Itās truly inspiring to read their insights, watch what theyāre building, and see what they share every day on social media.
If you work in tech, I strongly recommend following them. They consistently provide valuable content and are always willing to help others who are just starting out.
Congratulations to the team for putting together such an extraordinary event!
I never cease to be amazed by the talent that exists out there. And events like this are the perfect place to connect with the kinds of people I mentioned at the beginning of this post.
This particular hackathon had something special. I could feel the genuine interest from everyone involved in fostering an environment where people are encouraged to build. That energy was present throughout the entire day, and many of us left feeling incredibly inspired and eager to keep creating.
I strongly encourage you to follow the names I mentioned above. They are truly exceptionalāhighly talented individuals with a collaborative and innovative spirit that is difficult to find in any other professional field.
One of the best events Iāve attendedāthank you for letting me be part of it!
